How Old is Wine, Part 1

Updated: Dec 3, 2021

Hello everyone and welcome to this wonderful journey. How old is wine?

Well, for us Catholics, it is "THE BLOOD OF CHRIST", pretty big deal. The Old Testament mentions NOA as having planted grapes and made wine when his Ark came aground in what is today known as Turkey.

We will begin a journey through history looking for the origins of wine. From this point, we can say it's at least 2,000 years old. That leads us into the Roman Empire. We definitely know that wine was considered a daily necessity in the Roman Empire.

Wine was readily available to slaves, peasants as well as to aristocrats. In fact, the Elder "Pliny" famously said "THERE'S TRUTH IN WINE". We know that the Roman Empire lasted approximately 1,000 years. That gives us close to 3,000 years of history, so, what before"? Who was there before the Romans? I'll give you a hint, the ETRUSCANS, you may have heard of their neighborhood, just north of Rome "TUSCANY"

Next post we will continue to search for "the answer to the question HOW OLD IS WINE". Stay tuned.
